Angelina:

Shayla, before I say anything… I just want you to know that I regret it. Deeply. I’ve been carrying this guilt for months.

Shayla:

(suspicious)

What are you talking about?

Angelina:

(voice trembling)

It’s about Kai… and the DNA test. The one you took last year.

Shayla:

(confused, then sharp)

What about it? It said Darren wasn’t his father. That’s why I left him. That’s why everything fell apart. What are you saying?

Angelina:

(closing her eyes)

I changed it. I altered the results. Darren is Kai’s father.

Shayla:

I hacked into the system. I had someone help me change the report. The original test said Darren was a 99.9% match. But I made it say 0%.

Shayla:

(staggering backward)

Angelina:

I was angry, Shayla! Darren ruined my life back then. You don’t know everything. He cheated on me with you. You didn’t even know it. But he was playing us both. I wanted to hurt him — and I thought if he lost you, lost his son… it would break him the way he broke me.

Shayla:

You used my son to get revenge?

Angelina:

(pleading)

It was wrong, I know! I was blinded by pain. And I didn’t think you’d just leave Darren like that. I didn’t think it would go that far. But when I saw you walk away from him, when you took Kai and disappeared… I knew I’d made a huge mistake. But it was too late. I didn’t know how to fix it.

Shayla:

You destroyed our family. You made me believe my son didn’t even belong to the man I loved! I cried every night for weeks. Darren nearly drank himself into the hospital. Kai still asks why he doesn’t see his father anymore. And all this time, it was a lie?

Angelina:

Shayla:

Angelina:

I know. That’s what makes this worse. I betrayed both of you. I thought I was punishing Darren, but I hurt a child. I see that now.

Shayla:

(voice breaking)

Angelina:

(nods slowly)

I did. And I’ll never forgive myself. I want to help fix this, whatever it takes. I’ll come forward. You can show Darren the real results. I’ll admit to everything. I just… I wanted to tell you first.

Shayla:

(furious, but composed)

You’re damn right you’ll admit everything. Because I’m not letting this go. Darren has the right to know. Kai has the right to know. And you… you need to face what you did.

Angelina:

I understand.

Shayla:

(quietly, tears in her eyes)

You didn’t just lie. You tore apart a life that could’ve been whole. And no apology is going to change that. But the truth might still have a chance.

Angelina:

(nods, brokenly)
